NEW STREET, PHILIP JOHN OULESS (1817 - 1885) Artist.

He studied painting in Paris and on his return to Jersey taught painting and became much in demand for his portraits, landscapes and pictures of boats. He also published albums of local scenes. Two of his well known works 'Gorey Races' (1849) and 'St. Aubin's Bay' (1875) are now at the Museum. The plaque reads:- "PHILIP JOHN OULESS 1817-1885, JERSEY ARTIST, LIVED IN THIS HOUSE."
