PEIRSON PLACE, WALTER MATTHEW GALLICHAN (1861-1946) (Author)

He was born above the silversmith's shop on the west corner of Peirson Place and the Royal Square. A journalist on the 'Free Review' and 'Daily Mail' between 1901 and 1929, he also wrote books about sex and marriage, including, in 1919, 'Modern Woman and How to Manage Her'. He wrote angling books and novels too, as well as an introduction to psychoanalysis 'Our Invisible Selves'. The plaque reads:- "THE AUTHOR WALTER MATTHEW GALLICHAN WAS BORN HERE 1861."
