Esplanade Plaque(On sea wall opposite end of Gloucester Street)

In august, 1912, 4 sea planes took part in a race from St Mâlo to Jersey and back.  The first Pilot to land on the nearby beach, on the first leg of the race was Jean Benoît. The plaque reads:- "IN AN AIR RACE FROM ST. MÂLO ON AUGUST 26, 1912, JEAN BENOÎT PILOTED THE FIRST AIRCRAFT TO LAND IN JERSEY ON THE NEARBY BEACH."
